Some today argue that schools are no longer necessary because children can learn so much from the internet and be educated at home.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people are of the view that the advent of contemporary internet has rendered schools to be unnecessary as children can, nowadays, learn through internet and be schooled at home. In my opinion, I disagree with this notion because schools are necessary not only for educational purposes but also for the personal growth of children.

Firstly, schools provide a conducive environment for learning which may not be available at homes. For instance, when a child sees their peers striving and persevering to learn, this attitude rubs off on them and they, consequently, make more effort to learn a new subject. Moreover, schools are pivotal for personality and character development of an individual. For example, interaction with other students and teachers, alike, helps to improve the communication skills of a child and enhances their confidence. This can only be achieved in an environment like the one provided at schools and not at the comfort of homes. When children are forced to step out of their comfort zones, only then are they able to grow. Schools are, in particular, essential for learning to live in the real world, where everyone is not the same, and exposure of children to peers of different personality traits is crucial for them to learn how to deal with people of different natures in their future professional lives. In addition to this, schools provide an opportunity for students to make friends which may, otherwise, not have been possible being schooled at home. Schools provide an opportunity to learn to engage in and sustain meaningful relationships, such as friendship.

Furthermore, the chance provided at schools to engage in different extracurricular activities is vital for children. For instance, participating in sports at school helps in the physical development of a child and, in case of a team sports, improves the child's ability to work in cohesion with his teammates and improves his overall ability to work as a member of a team. These learning experiences are priceless and beneficial for the future. In contrast, schooling at home would deprive the child of all these experiences and their benefits.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that, although it is possible to meet the academic goals while being schooled at home, schools are necessary for overall development of an individual and the experiences provided at schools are extremely pivotal for the grooming of a child.
