Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

What other measures do you think might be effective?

Write at least 250 words.

The most effective technique of controlling the rise in vehicles and pollution is to hike the cost of petroleum products. In my opinion, I firmly disagree that the hike in the price of petrol will help in reducing the above problems. Some other approaches such as the attraction of people towards the electric vehicle, enhancement of quality of the public vehicle, and regular maintenance of existing vehicle help in somewhat addressing the issue.

When the price of petroleum products gets hiked, the day-to-day activities of the general public get severely affected. Such as with the rise in petrol costs, the cost of transportation of daily commodities increases. This rise in price affects not only the general people but also bears negative impacts on the economic growth of the country as the inflation rate increases. Further, the cost of public transportation gets increased which again has a bad influence on the general people and encourage them to use their private vehicle thereby increasing the traffic volume and pollution.

However, some other techniques such as raising public awareness regarding the advantages of the usage of an electric vehicle can be beneficial to control the pollution problems. As electric vehicle does not emit greenhouse gases, it has a high possibility of replacing the existing vehicles which are reliant on petrol and diesel. Another measure for the control of pollution is to carry out routine maintenance of the vehicle to ensure it does not emit any toxic pollutants.

For controlling the growth in traffic volume, public vehicles should be promoted and people should be encouraged to use them instead of their private vehicles. People chose private vehicles due to their convenience, cheaper transportation cost, and reliability. If we could enforce this feature into the current transportation system, the problem of traffic would be minimized to some extent.

To sum up, the rise in petroleum cost hampers the life of the general public as this hikes the cost of daily goods. So alternative approaches should be considered to check the rapid rise in traffic and pollution such as electric vehicles, regular maintenance of the vehicle, and tempting people to use public transportation.

Feedback

(1) You are contradicting yourself here. First you say increasing the price of petrol is the most effective technique for controlling vehicles, then you say that you disagree with this. You should preface your opening line with something like:

It is widely believed that one of the the most effective techniques for controlling the rise in vehicles and pollution is to raise the cost of petroleum products. Personally, I disagree with this point of view....

(2) What is a public vehicle? Do you mean a taxi? Or maybe buses, trains or subways? If this is case, you should say 'public transport'.
