Inclusion in the Guide is by recommendation, and we generally list only schools which are accredited by the The British Council and have a
reputation for quality and good service to students.

There are four ways to search for a school in the Guide:
Keyword Search: use the search box under the UK map to enter one or more keywords: all schools in the UK section of the Guide will be searched.
Choose a region of the United Kingdom to browse an A-Z list of all schools in that region. You can also click a region on the UK map.
Advanced Search: use this detailed search page to look for particular locations, courses, examinations, facilities or other features.
List all schools: browse the A-Z list of nearly 400 schools in the United Kingdom, with 30 schools listed on each page.

Our Current Recommendations
Below is English Forum's current selection of recommended English language schools in Britain.
Our selection includes both private language schools and tertiary academic institutions (universities and colleges). All these schools are accredited by the The British Council and all are members of one of the two national associations:
- for private language schools, ARELS, the Association of Recognised English Language Services;
- for universitites and colleges, BASELT, the British Association of State English Language Teaching.
London School of English: A medium-sized serious school for adults, with very high standards and a personal approach. The school is in the elegant Holland Park area of west London, and offers General Course and specialised courses for Executives and professional people.
Churchill House: Located in Ramsgate, a seaside town on the south east coast, this school has low prices but a great reputation for quality and service. Facilities are good, too. Wide range of courses and examination options.
International House (London, Bath, Newcastle, Torquay): The London headquarters of the worldwide IH network is a large school on Piccadilly, overlooking Green Park, with a wide choice of courses for students and teachers, excellent facilities and a deserved reputation for high quality.
Frances King School of English: One of the leading London schools with centres in Marble Arch, Gloucester Road and Victoria offering General Courses, Examination Preparation and Courses for Business and Professional People. Also offered are Summer Centres for adults and juniors in Cambridge and Oxford.
Hilderstone College: A friendly, state college in Broadstairs, Kent, offering quality courses for students and teachers. General English, Cambridge exams, pre-university, teacher refresher, and other courses. Good facilities.
Bell International, Cambridge: Located in elegant buildings in a residential area outside the university city of Cambridge, Bell offers high quality courses and facilities. There are other Bell schools in London, Bath, Norwich and Saffron Walden.
Linguarama: Linguarama is an international language training organisation with 40 schools world wide, specialising in courses for executives and professional people. Executive Group Courses, One-to-one Programmes, General English Courses, and Summer Courses are available in London,
Birmingham and
Stratford, and residential executive programmes at Cheney Court, Wiltshire.
Concord College: Concord College, near Shrewsbury, is a residential boarding school preparing international students for university entrance in Britain. In the summer vacation, the college also provides short Intensive English Language courses. Excellent facilities for study, recreation, and accommodation.
