AAIEP - the Association of American Intensive English Programs - is a US based organization of programs represented by their directors who:
- Promote ethical and professional standards for intensive English language programs.
- Encourage and facilitate evaluation of intensive English programs.
- Provide liaison between intensive English programs and other organizations whose concerns for international students overlap with those of AAIEP.
- Work to increase awareness abroad of opportunities for English language study in the United States.
To accomplish these purposes, AAIEP has adopted a set of standards and established standing committees to complete its mission.
AAIEP is governed by an Executive Board. Membership is open to all U.S. Intensive English programs that comply with the qualifications as stated in the Bylaws.
AAIEP provides help in choosing an English program in the United States. There are AAIEP member programs in most of the 50 states of the United States.
The Mission of AAIEP:
AAIEP is committed to supporting the professional image of ESL instruction in the United States and to work for the well-being of the profession and the individual member-programs.
The Association is a vehicle for working with
NAFSA (Association of International Educators),
TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages),
the US Department of State, the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), and other organizations who use Intensive English Programs (IEPs) or whose actions affect IEPs. These may also include U.S. and foreign government agencies, sponsors, and admissions officers and counselors.
AAIEP is also committed to increasing the visibility abroad of member programs. As a means of attracting more ESL students to the United States, AAIEP participates in and sponsors catalog shows and study-abroad fairs.
The Association also creates a forum through its newsletter, executive board, committees, workshops, and meetings where directors can express their concerns and attempt to resolve problems within the profession. In this creative interchange, AAIEP directors develop appreciation for and friendships with their professional colleagues.
